A beach escape to Kapchagay Reservoir, with a renewed waterfront, open views, walking paths and sports areas beside the water.
A reservoir and a waterfront promenade
Kapshagay is an artificial reservoir on the Ili River, whose filling began in 1970. Built to regulate the river's flow, it is also used for irrigation and recreation. Its broad water horizon sits alongside steppe scenery and the everyday urban life of Qonaev.
The city waterfront was improved in 2024–2025 with walking surfaces, planting and spaces for sport and family recreation. You can choose it for a walk beside the water without making swimming essential to the trip. Access to an individual beach and shoreline conditions need a separate check.
