Alma-Arasan Gorge

Alma-Arasan Gorge

About the place

A mountain gorge with conifer-covered slopes, a river and a walking route towards the hot spring.

A gorge shaped by water and warm springs

Alma-Arasan lies on the northern slopes of the Trans-Ili Alatau, bringing forested mountainsides, a river and mineral springs close to Almaty. Kazakhstan's tourism portal connects its name with apples and a warm spring. The walk offers a chance to see how water and terrain shape a mountain landscape.

Build your visit around an accessible trail and consider the spring separately. The national park reported footbridge repairs in 2024, but that does not establish its condition today. Check surfaces and signs before crossing; a short riverside walk is a different undertaking from a hike into the upper gorge.
