28 Panfilov Guardsmen Park

About the place

Shaded paths, the Glory Memorial and Eternal Flame form a distinct historical walk beside the cathedral.

History and remembrance

The park received its present name in 1942. Its memorial area commemorates those who served in the war: the Glory Memorial and Eternal Flame opened on 8 May 1975. Ascension Cathedral stands nearby, bringing several strands of the city's history together.

For a first visit, divide the walk into two parts: spend some quiet time at the memorial, then follow the paths towards the cathedral. Give the place of remembrance and the working church separate attention rather than treating the whole park as a single photo stop.
