Medeu and Shymbulak: plan a mountain day from Almaty
Build the day around Shymbulak if the resort and gondola are operating. Treat Medeu as the transfer area, rather than a promise of visiting an open ice rink.

Consult the resort's official access information, weather, operation of each lift you need and the last descent. Check the relevant sections and conditions before buying a ticket; no fixed fare is quoted here.
2. From O2 to the base station
Plan current directions to the gondola base station in the Medeu area. Follow local instructions where pedestrian access is restricted. The arena visit is not included: the complex is being reconstructed.
3. Going up and exploring
The resort announced road restrictions on the Medeu–Tuyuk-Su route from 24 July to 30 November 2026 and recommended the gondola. Recheck the restriction on your travel date. An outing in the resort's open areas is enough for a first visit; longer hikes need separate preparation.
4. Return and an alternative
Confirm the last descent before planning your walk and lunch. Take an extra warm layer, comfortable footwear and water. If lifts stop, choose a city itinerary rather than trying to reach the resort through a closed road.
