History and architecture

The Kazakhstan Hotel opened in 1977. Designed by Yuri Ratushny, Leonid Ukhobotov and their team, the late-modernist building became recognisable through its tall outline and golden crown. It remains a working hotel as well as an architectural landmark in Almaty.

For an architectural visit, start with a street-level overview, then look at the upper façade from another angle. Keep any visit upstairs optional: if a restaurant or another indoor space interests you, ask the hotel about its access arrangements before planning around it.

Direct bus 48 to the Hotel Kazakhstan stop → walk about 3 minutes.

Visiting tips

When photographing the façade, stay on the pavement and keep guest entrances and vehicle access clear.
