About the place
A landmark concert hall and a bold example of late Soviet modernism on Abai Square.
History and architecture
Built in 1970, the Palace of the Republic forms part of the architectural setting of Abai Square. It has a long cultural life as a venue for concerts, festivals and ceremonies. Both the building and its relationship with the surrounding square reward attention.
Start by looking at the palace from the square, taking in its outline and the space around it. To see the auditorium, choose an event in advance: an exterior walk and a concert visit call for different plans and offer different experiences.
